STEP
1
Measure
14 crowns, or twists, from the line end and mark with a temporary
wrap of tape around the line. Determine the eye size and mark
with another wrap of tape.

| |
STEP
2
Unlay
the three strands to the first tape and either tape or heat
seal the individual strand ends. Form the eye from right to
left by bringing the two tape marks together. Take the center
unlayed strand and tuck it toward you under the top strand
in the main body of the line. Pull tight.

STEP
3
Turn
the eye over toward you so you can see its other side. Take
the left-hand unlayed strand, tuck it under the next strand
in the line and pull it toward you. Keep strands pulled tight.

| |
STEP
4
Turn
the eye back to its original position and slightly away from
you. Take the last unlayed strand and tuck it under the remaining
strand in the line, next to the tape marker. Pull all of the
strands toward you and snugly against the main body of the
line.

STEP
5
Take
one of the unlayed strands and pass it over, around and under
the strand next to it, pull the end through toward you. Repeat
this process with all unlayed strands for minimum of 5 tucks
each. You will find that each unlayed strand will be forming
a twist around one of the strands in the body of the line.

| |
STEP
6
To
taper the splice into the line, make 2 additional tucks with
one strand and 1 additional tuck with a second strand, leaving
the third strand as it is. This will leave a strand between
each unlayed strand.
| |
STEP
7
Cut
off the remaining unlayed strands about 3/8 inch from the
last tuck. Heat seal ends to prevent fraying, if desired.
Smooth the splice by rolling it between your hands or under
foot for large diameter lines.
